 Malabari Goat

Malabari goat breed is found in Kannur, Calicut, Wayanad & Malapuram districts of Kerala  in India. They are medium sizes animals with varied coat colour ranging from white to admixtures & black in few areas. These goats are mainly reared for meat purpose , the average milk yield of this breed is 100 – 190 kgs. in a lactation period of 180 – 210 days. Also 30 % of the goats are long haired all the males & small number of females have bearded. The body weight of these goats weighs about 5.73 kgs. at third month, 9.20 kgs. at 6 months, 13.27 kgs. at 9 months & finally 20 kgs. at the end of 12 months, milk yield in the female goats is about 1 litre / day &weighs about 40 to 50 kgs. in a year if fed with highly nutritious feed.

Damascus Goat  

Damascus goat breed is raised in Syria & Lebanon primarily for milk production they are usually brown or red in colour in some cases they are found in pied or grey colour, the animals can be horned or polled & long haired & they are of Nubian type.

Boer is a Fast-growing breed for commercial goat farming globally, if properly fed with nutritional feeds it can weigh about 200 grams of weight per day, the birth weight of male Boer goat kid will be 3 to 5 kgs. which is about 0.5 kgs. heavier than female Boer goats, kids at weaning age will have a body weight of about 20 to 25 kgs. depending on weaning methods & age at 7 months of age bucks weighs about 40 to 50 kgs. whereas the female weighs about 35 to 40 kgs. For a good fertility Boer goat Ram, the following practices has to be followed before 2 or 3 months for mating seasons

  1. Always give zinc supplement if zinc level is too low in pastures

  2. Dose with vitamin A, D, E

  3. Deworm the Boer goat bucks for round worms & nose worms, ensure that rams are in good conditions with good hoofs

  4. Rams should get good exercise & fit enough to breed see that they should not become too fat & lazy

In this mating one Boer buck should be mated with 50 female does the quality of Boer buck should be excellent in body conditions, with average body weight, stamina , very aggressive with proper exercise , this buck should be maintained separately in the goat shed with special care in feeding highly nutritious feed & healthy exercise, it should be let loose only during evening time with Boer does for mating  & it should be separated again during nights in the separate male buck shed, try to do this in cool weather conditions . A ram can cover ewes every half an hour time period during mating
